National Federation of State High School Association Swim/Dive Rulebook Rule 4: Officials and their Duties Authorized Officials as per Rulebook are determined for State Championship; other sanctioned school competitions to be staffed as possibilities exist Referee / Starter / Stroke-Turn / Relay Take-off / Finish / Timing Equipment Operator (for other sanctioned competitions, Officials may work a combination of duties, moving on the deck to appropriately manage/cover their portion of pool) Registration with NSAA is recommended Officials Uniform: recommended all white or khaki pants or attire determined by State; appropriate deck shoes to provide support, safety; Whistle, pencil, paper/cards for DQ, Rulebook, Sounding device for 500 Accept assignments by assigner Officials to arrive on pool deck at least 30 minutes prior to meet start Introduce yourself to designated school personnel, coaches, other official(s) Complete required paperwork for payment of fees Referee (or person in charge) will review meet structure/operation/procedures Complete Safety checks Observe Rules for Sportsmanship for participants, coaches, spectators; manage in accordance Assume deck position(s) in accordance with assignment(s) Follow designed procedures for disqualification Pace of competition |
End of competition responsibilities
Meet Management with: 1 Official: @4 lane pool -- Official assumes and prioritizes responsibilities for 4 lanes as Referee-Starter-Stroke/Turn-Relay Exchange-Finish 2 Officials: @6-8 lane pool -- Divide the pool lanes for duties relating to start, strokes, turns, finish, final decisions, with Dual Confirmation for Start/Relay Exchanges. 3 Officials: the 3rd Official jurisdiction may include 15 mark on Starter side + S/T for 6/8 lanes 4 Officials: Duties relevant to Starter / Referee / 2 Stroke and Turn officials divide pool at turn end of pool 5 Officials: Duties relevant to Starter / Referee / 3 Stroke and Turn officials who may be assigned duties at Start end for Relay Exchanges as well as at Turn end for S/T. Invitational/Conference/State competitions may have expanded details for assigned Officials.
