2020 Nebraska State HS Tournament Request for Line Judges
Welcome to 2020, the year of covid! So many changes for everyone over this past season and probably still many changes to come. But I’m just glad that WE had a season and that Nebraska HS players got to play volleyball. There were so many states that did not play. So of course, covid regulations will affect this tournament. I’m not sure if you’ve seen the schedule yet or not, but there will be 3 sessions (2 matches on each court during each session) on each of the first 3 days. On the fourth day, there will be a single court with 2 matches per session. The first matches are on Wednesday Nov 4. Before you register to work at this year’s tournament, please be aware of these new regulations (that will be in effect for this year only). Line Judges (if chosen): - Will work only one session per day (2 matches). - Will not be provided with any housing, food, mileage or any other type of compensation, except for the daily match fee (which I think is $25). - Could be chosen to work every day (possibly for different sessions) or could not be chosen at all. - Will need to wear mask at all times (even on the court). If you choose not to work this year, it will not be held against you for future years. This year is such an exception that we realize that mostly locals will work. Ball Shaggers If you are not chosen to be a line judge in a session, but would still be interested in helping as a ball shagger, please note that in the comment section. I will assume that you can assist with ball shagging at the same times you were available as a line judge. Uniform There will be no dressing rooms available, so please come dressed. Once your session is complete, you must vacate the officials area. You may stay and watch additional sessions, but unless you are working, you CANNOT come into the officials room. You should wear your regular officiating uniform - black pants, black shoes, black socks and white polo. If you have the black or white jacket, you can wear them prior to the start of the match. If you think you will be cold during a match, you should make sure you have a long sleeve polo. You do not need to bring flags, as they will be provided for you. If you have further questions at this time, just let me know. Hotel rooms will not be provided for referees this year. Use this link to register to work. The link can also be found on my website at omnevb.net under the High School tab. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

END OF MATCH PROCEDURES At the end of the match, signal the final point, blow the whistle and cross your arms across your chest to signal end of set, move your arms straight out to your sides (signaling teams to go to their endline), blow the whistle and bring your arms together in front of your body, signaling teams to approach the attack line to give the final ‘wave’ ('handshake'). * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
